McElroy was honored for its dedication to worker safety and participation in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) on June 6, 2022.
Leslie Osborn, the Oklahoma Labor Commissioner, honored McElroy with a proclamation praising its leadership and staff.
SHARP is a free on-site consultation program that offers small and medium-sized businesses in the United States confidential occupational safety and health services. Consultants from local agencies or colleges assist employers in identifying workplace dangers, providing guidance for OSHA compliance, and building and enhancing safety and health programs.
To obtain SHARP certification, businesses must first schedule a meeting with their local OSHA personnel. During the inspection, representatives examine the entirety of the company's workplace by walking through facilities, analyzing existing safety measures, interviewing personnel, and reviewing training records. After completing the time-consuming and labor-intensive process, OSHA representatives provide a report of their findings.
McElroy has been SHARP-certified since 1999 and is one of Oklahoma's 19 SHARP-certified businesses. The duration of this certification is from March 2022 to March 2024.
Art McElroy, the creator of McElroy, requested OSHA's assistance in ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations in 1964. This predated federal OSHA regulations and exemplifies McElroy's safety culture.
